Beekeeping Equipmen

Beekeeping is both fun and financially rewarding, so if you want to start this hobby get along and grab some good beekeeping equipments that will help you maintain this fun and exciting activity. Assemble everything you will need before you get your bees. The most important piece of equipment you need is the beehive.

The beehive you get must have at least five supers. You cannot miss out on the supers because the bees store honey there. The beehive bottom should be below the five supers and the cover must be on top. Apart from storing the honey, bees use these supers for raising their young ones too. About 9 to 10 frames will develop in each of these ten frames as the hive becomes active. You can make your choice from among them. The merit of getting a deep super hive is that you will need only a single size of foundation. You must be ready for the weight though. But you can prevent this by keeping it on a level surface. Take care to confine your beehive in an area where pets and people are not likely to disturb it. Get a spacer to manage equal spaces between the frames for the time they are in the super.

The next piece of equipment you will need is a smoker. With the help of the smoker, you can drive the bees out of the hive when you want to remove the honey. The smoker is a very simplistically designed device. The funnel, the combustion chamber and the bellows are the three parts of the smoker. The best ignition material in the smoker – also recommended by veteran beekeepers – is the burlap for its ease of ignition and for the smoky fumes it produces. Alternatively, you can use dried corn cobs. Allow the fire to keep burning with the bellows.

The next piece of equipment to use is the metal hive tool. You will find this tool important when you have to open the beehive, remove its different comportment and simply to maintain complete cleanliness of the hive. There are a lot many things that you can do with this tool in beekeeping. It is quite unwise to get you’re live bees before getting your bee brush. A bee brush is used to gently brush bees out of the way so that the beekeeper can examine the frames.

When it is time to harvest your honey, you will need a fumer board. This is a special board dabbed with bee repelling chemicals. You can get preowned beekeeping material for cheap on eBay. Several online catalogs and websites sell them.
